Peninsula Community Development Corporation (PCDC) is a Community Housing Development Organization. PCDC is a non-profit that provides successful, community-based, affordable housing solutions to low-income households in Newport News and Hampton. PCDC addresses the principle of economic self-sufficiency through affordable housing, financial literacy, and job training programs.
“Homes You Can Afford” Revitalization Program builds and rehabilitates quality, affordable and energy efficient houses for sale to first-time homebuyers. The program prepares potential homebuyers for long-term homeownership through instructional group seminars and individual counseling. Participants receive down payment or closing cost assistance, homebuyer education and homeownership training.
“HomeOwner GOLD” Homebuyers Club assists its members in improving their credit rating. This club provides support to assist members in becoming eligible for homeownership through financial literacy, counseling, peer support and goal setting.
OHA Restaurant Project job training program provides job training and employment opportunities. OHA was awarded $389,887 in funding for PCDC’s OHA Restaurant Project from the Office of Community Services to administer this program. The OHA Restaurant Project in partnership with two local restaurants provides employment opportunities for low-income individuals. A total of 26 jobs have been created: 23 trainee positions and three manager positions.
CareerNet Job Readiness/Life Skills Training Program provides training to low-income youth between the ages of 16 to 21. The program is designed to provide at-risk youth of Newport News and Hampton with basic job readiness skills. Funding for this program was made possible by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
