Wendell Braxton, Executive DirectorDear Friends: Welcome to the Office of Human Affairs where we take considerable pride in our reputation for developing and administering programs that help our community’s disadvantaged and low-income population. Since OHA’s creation in 1965, the office has consistently demonstrated its ability to produce quality programs that have had a beneficial impact on the lives of those less-fortunate. In this regard, we earnestly express our enormous appreciation to our champions and many friends for their unwavering support and numerous acts of charitable giving through the years.
While it can be said that OHA has been a direct link in helping to enrich the lives of tens of thousands by enabling them to become economically self-sufficient, and thus, contributing members to society, it should also be noted that the root causes of poverty are still very much in evidence at this present time And, although we appear to be making significant progress on numerous fronts, there is also the stark reality that many of the factors that give rise to poverty are just as predominant in our community today (i.e., drug abuse, illiteracy, teen pregnancy; single-parent households; homelessness). We, therefore, at OHA perceive our mission as being just as important today as it was forty years ago.
As we embrace new challenges in the future, we find that we must also employ new, innovative approaches to combat poverty in the future. But we are highly confident in our ability to do this. We have a dedicated and committed Board of Directors, an energetic and industrious staff, and a growing band of local supporters who realize that by helping one person escape the ravages of poverty, we help the entire community.
We invite you to browse our website and become a part of the growing number of individuals who are deeply interested in joining forces to fight and win the “War on Poverty”. Wendell F. Braxton, Executive Director
